So what type of format is best for an oil and gas resume?
Oil and gas resumes should be kept black and white without the introduction of any colours. You should use black horizontal lines to separate the various sections in the resume, and bulleted lists to identify skills, certifications, and equipment you are able to use.
You should have a maximum of two font sizes on the resume. All headings and titles should be one size, and the actual content of the resume should be one or two sizes smaller. Using multiple font sizes can look messy and confuse the eyes of the hiring manager. Most oil and gas professionals should stick with a simple, easy-to-read font such as Cambria, Times New Roman, or Arial. Font sizes should range from a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 12.
Different from the average professional’s resume, an oil and gas resume will likely include a certifications section at the bottom of the resume. This is where you can clearly outline to the hiring manager which skilled trades you are certified in, which safety certifications you have obtained, as well as which licenses you have and equipment you can operate.
